Facts and Events
2002-2003 - I have research on lots of VanKirks, including The Van Kirk Family, by Wilson V Ledley and miscellaneous information gathered from Genealogy.com, etc. but nothing that shows this family. The 1900 census Pennsylvania, Beaver County, City of Darlington has William VanKirk head of house born March 1831, age 69, married for 43 years and everyone is born in PA. William is a carpenter, can read and write, owns his house free. His wife is Martha, born November 1833, age 66, married 43 years, 4 children, 3 living, she is born in Ohio and her father is born in Ohio but her mother is born in PA. (T623 roll 1374 pg 263-paper file only-not saved to CD) 11 May 2004 - My problem with this is that I show William to have died in 1892 and Martha died in 1888. I also do not know that Iza had any siblings. And, this would indicate that William and Martha got married in 1857, which means they were married 22 years before Iza was born. 15 Apr 2007 - I have not been able to get any thing on this family other than what is listed above. Was Martha really 46 before Iza was born? The only FACTS I have come from Iza's SS-5 which clearly states that William Henry VanKirk was her father and Martha Ellen Ewing her mother and Iza was born in Freedom, PA. From www.ancestry.com I have 9 William VanKirks in the American Civil War in the Union - I did not look at Confederates. And, of course, I need to do further research to see if any of these 9 are this "William Henry" 19 Jan 2010-I have changed this person from William Henry Van Kirk to William Henry Powell. I now think that William Henry Powell and Martha Ellen VanKirk were married and had a child, Iza Pearl Powell. Martha got sick and her sister, Eliza Jane VanKirk came to nurse her. Eliza Jane had a child, Charles, which she left with her mother, Agnes (Ewing) VanKirk. Martha died, and eventually, Eliza Jane and William Henry Powell married. And they had a child, George. |
