Personal History

William Peacock, second son of Samuel Peacock and Mary Kittredg, was born 13 April 1721, in Billerica, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[1][2] He died intestate[6] 22 October 1749, in Tewksbury (formerly a part of Billerica),[3][4] of throat distemper,[3] and was buried in the old Center Cemetery.[5] William died less than a week after the death of his daughter Susannah and less than a year after the birth of his only son William.

William Peacock and Betty Farmer were married 3 February 174[2/]3, in Tewksbury, Province of Massachusetts Bay. The births of their children appear in the town records of Tewksbury.

On 20 November 1749,[6] in the probate court of Middlesex Co., Bettey Peacock (her + mark) of Tewksbury, widow, was appointed administrator of the estate of her late husband William Peacock late of Tewksbury, and she, along with Thomas Kittredg of Tewksbury, yeoman, and Ephraim Curtis of Dracut, yeoman, signed a bond in the amount of £500. Deacon Joseph Kittredge, Stephen Osgood, and Thomas Kittredge, all of Tewksbury, were appointed to take an inventory of the estate, and on 29 December 1749, the personal estate (including one “negro boy”) was valued at £445-13. The real estate distributed from his father's, Samuel Peacock's, estate was valued at £500. For selling the real estate, his mother, Mary, was entitled to receive £100. His widow, Betty, was granted an allowance of £80 with an additional £80 for the care of the youngest child four years longer.

In 1771, his mother's dower was divided between the surviving grandchildren, and William's only son was granted all of the land.[7]
