Facts and Events
William and his wife Maria left England on April 6, 1848 by sailing ship and immigrated to America by way of Chicago and Galena. They were accompanied by Maria's three sisters. The trip took approximaely two months. William was a miner and became Superintendent of Mines in Shullsburg, Wiota, Galena and Mineral Point, Wisconsin. He mined for 19 years and then in 1867 purchased a farm just north of Mineral point in Plum Grove district. William and Maria were both very religious and very strict, belonging to the old-fashioned Primitive Methodist Church of Mineral Point. He was a very large and tall man, habitually wearing a large silk stovepipe hat. Maria was a very small woman and could walk under William's outstretched arm. 1850 Census - Mineral Point, Iowa, Wisconsin - Aug 7, 1850; Roll: M432_999; Page: 332; Dwelling 104, Family 404 William Muresh (35, miner, England); Maria Muresh (30, England); E.
