Albert shot and killed his first wife, Clara, while shooting at a hired hand. The following is a transcript of a newspaper article that appeared in the Kearney paper on Sep 24, 1891: "Released from Prison - A.J. Murrish, who three years ago last month accidentally killed his wife when shooting at a hired man, and who was sentenced to four years imprisonment has been released. His good behavior throughtout the term has been faultless. After visiting his parents at Mineral Point, Wisconsin, he will return to Kearney to live."
