William Albert Moses Jr., 85, Monona, Iowa, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Gardenview Assisted Living, Monona, Iowa, following a brief illness. William was born on September 14, 1924, McGregor, Iowa, to William Eugene and Blanche Mable (Robinson) Moses. He was raised east of Monona, attended Cooper Valley School and continued to help his father on their family farm.

William was united in marriage to Isabel Margaret Ferguson on April 15, 1946, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. They purchased their first two farms (the home place and the other place) from Lloyd Bacon in 1947. They toiled, while raising five children, Joanne, Robert, Tom, Bruce and Byron.

In 1976, William and Isabel bought a house in Monona. William returned to the farm daily – back to his love, his roots. For a time, he worked with his son Bruce (Moses Excavating) as well as after Bruce’s death driving caterpillar, which was another one of his loves.

In December of 2006, William and Isabel moved to Gardenview Assisted Living in Monona, Iowa. It was a difficult transition, however over time he developed friends and won the hearts of the staff. In the end he was able to die peacefully at Gardenview on Thursday, March 25, 2010, with family and staff by his side just as the sun shone in the window.

God speed dad, “You Did Good”

His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of many as well as the farms, as his sons preserve and continue to work the family farms.

William is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Isabel; one son Bruce Moses and one grandchild, Jessi Moses.

Survivors include four children, Joanne M. Lewis, Chesapeake, VA, Robert (Sheryl) Moses, Monona, Tom (Karen) Moses, Monona, Byron (Brenda) Moses, Monona; his siblings, Shirley (Elmer) Stangeland, Willard (Ann) Moses, Dolly Klingeman, Betty Moose as well as sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, the latest Isabelle Grace, born on February 11, 2010.
