"8 William3 Gary (Nathaniel1, Arthur1) was born in Roxbury, Mass., Mar. 4, 1666/7. He early removed to Woodstock, Conn., to join his brother Nathaniel Gary who was one of the original founders of the town, and in 1700 he settled in Pomfret, the daughter town of Woodstock. … He was a substantial farmer and a man of comfortable estates. He served as town hayward in 1730 and was on the Grand Jury in 1729. He was also a lister of the town of Pomfret in 1714 and 1721. Oct 20, 1727, he deeded to his son John, 550 acres of land in the southeastern part of Woodstock, Conn. He died in Pomfret, Conn., Nov. 22, 1756. His will, dated at Pomfret, Mar. 22, 1754, proved Dec. 7, 1756, which states that he was far advanced in years, mentions his wife Susanna, grandson, David Towne, son of David Towne of Oxford (Mass.), son Joseph, to whom he left £5, 'as he has already received his share of my estate'; and provides that the residue be divided among the children of his son John, deceased, and the children of his son Joseph. The executors were Samuel Perrin and William Sabin. The inventory of the estate presented Dec. 1, 1756, amounted to £113; 16s; 8d."
