William Fernihough was born on 28th June 1791 and baptised five days later at Bottesford in Leicestershire, son of Sarah Fernihough, formerly Castledine, and her husband William Fernihough, a labourer. It is not clear what became of William, although he clearly lived to adulthood and outlived both his parents. He was still alive in 1840 when he was mentioned in the will of his aunt Elizabeth, who was the widow of William's father's brother Thomas.
