1912.
William H. Faulkner, one of the most widely known farmers in this vicinity, died yesterday at his home in Auburn township, about eight miles southwest of Shelby. Death was due to pneumonia, from which he had suffered about ten days. He was 71 years old.
Mr. Faulkner was born in Plymouth township, about four miles from Shelby, November 5, 1841. He was married, January 15, 1863, to Miss Mary Elizabeth Blackman, who died December 4, 1890. Nine children were born to them, J. W. and F. Faulkner, Shelby.; Mrs. Ida Chew, Reno, Ark.; George C. Faulkner, Findlay; Julia C. Perkins, Findlay; Mrs. Etta Crum, Shelby; Miss Martha Faulkner, Findlay; Mrs. Nellie Baird, Plymouth, and Clara, who died in infancy.
Mr. Faulkner enlisted in the army May 27, 1862, in Company H, 84th O. V. I., and was discharged September 20, 1862. He was a member of Harker Post, G. A. R., of Shelby, and a full member of Auburn Grange, having taken all seven degrees in connection with that organization. For forty-six years he had lived on the farm where he died, being an extensive agriculturist and a fruit grower of local note. He had an extensive peach orchard and during years when there was any crop at all he was always a familiar figure on the street of Shelby with his fruit wagons. He owned 160 acres of land at the homestead and 1,000 acres in Mexico, having been successful in anything which he undertook in the investment line.
He leaves the following brothers and sisters: D. S. Faulkner, Shelby; G. W. Faulkner, California; Mary Jane Gutshall, Shelby, and Mrs. G. M. Lee, Shelby.
Funeral service will be held at the late home Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Korner, of the Auburn church, and under the auspices of the Auburn grange. It is expected that the burial will be conducted by Harker Post, G. A. R., of this city. Interment at Oakland Cemetery.
