Facts and Events
Notes contributed by Carl, second son: He grew up on the family homestead on the Iowa Center Flats. Also known as W.K. Enix, the WK said as one word. Frequently the WK was said so that it sounded like "W Kay," and often just called "K." There were occasions that an old timer would call him "Bill," but these were indeed rare occasions. Medical history: W.K. was a skinny kid growing up and a good runner. Est. weight at marriage in '31 was about 120 pounds. Did not put on significant weight until later in life, 60+ years. Had excellent teeth. No known dental problems, rarely went to see a dentist in younger days and to the best of my knowledge not at all in later life. No known cavities or fillings. Far sighted and wore glasses for reading and close work. He commented one day that as a young man he could see on which end of the stack the hay fork was left on (could see the fork handle) approximately three fourths of a mile to the east toward cousin Florance Wright's place. Died in the Thunderbird hospital, Phoenix, Arizona. At time of death, in hospital recovering from operation for colon cancer. Died from a brain stem stroke. Had previous bouts with colon cancer. Other than the cancer, he was in excellent health. Cremation: 1990, was done in Arizona and the ashes brought to the farm to be scattered. (Daugher) Virginia made the trip. Ashes scattered on the farm, east of Chugwater, Wyoming. Location of the farm, 2 miles east of the Platte/Goshen County line and 2 and 1/4 miles north of main E-W oiled road through community. W.K. was a creative individual, who designed and built a fair amount of his own farm equipment. Designed house plans and a camping trailer, which to the best of my knowledge were never built. Designed and help build the Berean Bible Church (East D St.) in Torrington. References
