2010-email from Charles Kelly Riend: from Elko Independent newspaper 16 Oct 1881-Died at the Hospital: A stranger who arrived in Carlin from the West, a short time ago, was seized with fits at that place, Saturday, and that night was brought up by the train and placed in the hospital here. All efforts to relieve the sufferer proved unavailing, spasm after spasm continuing in quick succession until this morning death closed the struggle. Upon his person was found a memorandum book containing a certificate of the discharge of Wm F Donnelly from Napa, CA Insane Asylum, dated 2 Sep 1881; also a letter to Mrs Mary E Donnelly San Luis Obispo, CA. The book contained an order on a San Francisco auction house for a watch, on payment of a balance of $12, still due. These together with $3.50 in coin, a knife and some keys, constituted his effects. Preparations for the burial of the deceased were made at once, and the funeral took place at 4 o'clock this evening, the body being interred in the public cemetery.
