Facts and Events
I believe he may be the son of Joseph Dolan and Elizabeth McNally of Nutley, New Jersey. There is a marriage record for Joseph P. Dolan, son of Nicholas Dolan and Mary Carbarry, who married Elizabeth McNally, daughter of William McNally and Agnes Hennessey, in 1887 in Manhattan. However, the 1900 census shows a marriage in 1880. In the 1900 census for Franklin [later Nutley], Essex Co., New Jersey, Joseph Dolan is a clerk for US Customs, born Mar 1861 in New York (parents Ireland) married 20 years. His wife Elizabeth was born Sept 1864 in New York (father Ireland, mother England), with 7 of 7 children living. William is 19, born Aug 1881; Jessie M. is 12, born 1888; Leo G. is 9, b. 1890 -- all born New York -- Florence L. 7, 1892; Herbert C. 5, born 1894; Joseph P. 4, b. 1895; and John F. is 2, born 1898 -- all born New Jersey. All the children show father born Ireland and mother born New York. {ed 193, p. 4b} In the 1910 census for Nutley, 3rd Ward, Essex Co., New Jersey, Elizabeth A. Dolan is 45, born New York (father Ireland, mother England), widow, with (6?) of 7 children living. The children are William V., 28, single, 'mgr. electrical mfg.'; Jessie M. 22, stenographer; Leo G. 19, office work 'express' -- all born New York -- Florence L. 17; Herbert C. 15; Joseph P. 14; and John F. 11 -- all born New Jersey. All show parents born New York. {ed 203, p. 251a} There are WWI draft registration cards for Leo Gerald, Herbert Charles, Joseph Palmer, and Francis John Dolan in Essex Co., New Jersey. All except William and Joseph P. are listed in the 1920 census for Nutley, Ward 3, Essex Co., New Jersey, though I believe Joseph P. is listed as Palmer. There are birth records for Leo Dolan b. 1890 in Manhattan, and Florence G. born 1892 in Essex Co., New Jersey to Joseph Dolan and Elizabeth McNally. Given his death date (range) William may have died either in WWI or in the influenza outbreak of 1918. References
