William DILL married Margaret PARKER 20 Nov 1855 at Edinburgh. Margaret was born 3 Apr 1831 at Edinburgh of John PARKER and Margaret SCOTT.
William Dill was born 15 Jun 1825 (?), son of Elizabeth Black, daughter of James Black minister of Penninghame. William married 20 Nov 1855 Margaret Scott (d. 11 Mar 1868), daughter of John Parker, SSC, principal extractor of the court of session. William died 5 Sep 1867 (“Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae”). From “Annual indexes to the services of heirs in Scotland 1860-69” (pub. 1871): Reg. 8 Mar 1861. Rev. William Dill, minister of Colmonell, to his father William Dill, banker and writer in Newton Stewart, who died 2 Nov 1856, heir general and heir special in House and Ground on the east side of the street of Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.
The Rev. William DILL was ordained 7 Sep 1848 at St George's-in-the-Fields, Glasgow, and transferred to Colmonell, Ayrshire, on 31 Jan 1850. He was the eldest son of William DILL, writer in Newton Stewart, and Elizabeth BLACK. He studied at Edinburgh, and there married Margaret PARKER, 20 Nov 1855.
In 1861 William Smith (1819-1877) made a will naming trustees John Black, merchant in Borneo Co. Ltd., Manchester and William Dill, minister of Colmonell, Ayrshire (whose sister married into the Barton family). Patrick Adair Black, merchant, was a witness (clanjackson website).
In Nov 1876 the will of William SMITH was altered as W. DILL, previously a witness to the will, had died. William died 1867 (rootsweb message). In 1861 William Dill (b. 1825 Newton Stewart), wife Margaret (b. 1831 Edinburgh) and children Elizabeth (b. 1859 Colmonell) and Jane (b. 1860 Colmonell) were visitors at Kirkhill Castle home of Elizabeth Gray nee Dill (b. 1830 Newton Stewart (census).
