William Dill was born 15jun1825, son of Elizabeth Black, daughter of James Black, minister of Penninghame.

In 1841 William Dill (b. 1793 outside Wigtownshire) lived with Elizabeth (b 1796, Wigtownshire) and 5 children and one servant at High St., Penninghame parish (i.e. Newton Stewart) (census). In 1851 William (b. 1793 Creebridge, Kirkcudbrightshire), was procurator for Wigtown- and Kirkcudbrightshire and agent for the National Bank of Scotland, High St., Penninghame and resident there, possibly with Elizabeth (b. 1795), and 2 servants (census).
