William Cooper was baptised on 24th February 1867 at South Hylton in the parish of Ford, County Durham. He was the son of Elizabeth Jane Cooper, formerly Robinson, and her husband John George Cooper, a joiner. William appears in the 1871 and 1881 censuses living with his parents and siblings at South Hylton. In 1881, when he was fourteen years old, he was working in a paper mill. He has yet to be researched after 1881.
