John William Cooper was baptised on 6th July 1862 at South Hylton in the township of Ford and parish of Bishopwearmouth, County Durham. He was the eldest son of Elizabeth Jane Cooper, formerly Robinson, and her husband John George Cooper, a joiner. Sadly young John died as a boy of only eight years old in 1871.
