Funeral card given to me by Esther Fleanor shows the data (death day and year shown amended) reported here. It reported that he died of heart trouble-dropsy after long illnes. He enlisted for civil war at St. Louis, MO June 1, 1861 and mustered into Co. F, 7th MO Regt. Vols. Reenlisted Dec. 10, 1863 and transferred to Co. K, 11th Regt. MO. Vols (twice wounded). He was at times a miller, carpenter, and farmer. He was father of 5 boys and 5 girls. His obituary says that he married Josephine Earp in Henderson Co., IL Nov. 5, 1866 and they had ten children; five boys and five girls.

His obituary does not emphasize that those civil war regiments were confederate. It is interesting to me that he was born in Fountain Co., IN (West of Crawfordsville, etc.), married in Henderson Co., IL (near Mississippi River and Galesburg, etc.) died near Adelphi, Iowa (no longer a town, but on Polk/Warren line) and buried at Warren County Youngstown Cemetery. He obviously had lived mostly in the border northern states but moved to MO for the civil war, and then returned to the north afterwards. Marrying into the Earp family gives even more insight to his personality.
