S. WOODSTOCK- William A. T. Cassedy, 89, of S. Woodstock, died peacefully in his sleep very early on Monday, April 16th. Bill grew up in Fultonville, NY where he began a 25 year membership in the Boy Scouts of America. In 1941, he graduated from Middlebury College, VT. In WW II, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross as a Radio Operator in the 8th Air Force. After the War he worked at General Electric in Syracuse, NY and Decatur, IL. He came to Woodstock in 1971 as an executive for American Optical in Southbridge, MA until his retirement in 1983 when he became a consultant. Bill was a Deacon, Trustee and Chairman of the Meeting House 300 Committee for the First Congregational Church of Woodstock and also served as a Delegate to and member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ. He was Chairman of the Woodstock Inland Wetlands Agency for 20 years and a member of the Woodstock School Board.

Bill leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Margot; a devoted daughter, Nena; a son, Tyler; a daughterinlaw and two grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM, April 29th (Sunday), at the First Congregational of Woodstock, Woodstock, CT. Donations may be made to the New Century Foundation of the Church, 543 Route 169, Woodstock, CT, 06281.

Bill served the Baker Association as Treasurer from 1940-1955 and as President from 1980-1983 and was a faithful attendee. For many years, since the early 1970’s, Bill was the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the South Coventry Water Supply Company which his grandfather, William L. Higgins, founded in the late 1800’s. In 2006, when additional government regulations made it prohibitive for a small company to continue, Bill was instrumental in arranging the sale of the South Coventry Water Supply Company to the Connecticut Water Company, and in distributing funds to SCWS Company shareholders. Bill grew up in Fultonville, NY where he began a 25-year membership in the Boy Scouts of America. After the War he worked at General Electric in Syracuse, NY and Decatur, IL.
