1919 !BIRTH: nformation from Baker book p. 43 !BIOGRAPHY: Per newspaper clipping from Evening Recorder, Amsterdam, NY of Sep 26, 1949, Colonel Robert T Snow (US Army - retired) and Mrs. Snow announced the engagement of their daughter Barbara Virginia Snow to James for a planned October wedding. Barbara is a graduate of Lower Merion High School in Ardsmore, PA, and of Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT. James is a graduate of Fultonville High School and Middlebury College as well. He was in the army for 4 and 1/2 years and at the time of the article was doing graduate work at Brown in Providence, RI in American Civilization. Per Mrs. Laura Bitter, James (Jim) took care of one of his in-laws until they passed, then Barbara left him. He was in the O. S. S. and spent time in SE Asia. He was posted as Cultural Atache to ? Gloversville, Fulton Co., NY, 11 Oct 1919; d. at home (8315 North Brook Lane, Apt. 1006, Bethesda, MD 20814) 14 Sep. 2007; graduated Middlebury College, VT and after the war earned a master’s and Ph.D in American civilization from Brown University; veteran of the Army in WWII; employed 1961 Karachi, Pakistan as director of the Pakistan-American Cultural Center under the United States Information Service; he worked as director of cultural centers for the US Information Agency in Haiti, Burma and Pakistan before joining the US National Institutes of Heath in Bethesda, MD as medical historian; he then received an appointment at the National Library of Medicine where he worked 37 years until his retirement in 2006; as a noted historian of medicine he authored 6 books and was past president and vice president of the American Assoc. for the History of Medicine which gave him its Welch Medal and Lifetime Achievement Award; he also received the National Library of Medicine Regents Award for his scholarship He m.
