Wilbert Gentz

Wilbert S. Gentz, 90, of Sterling, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at his home.

Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, Ill. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks and the Rev. Karl Kaiser co-officiating. Burial will conclude at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. A memorial has been established in his memory. The Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, Sterling, completed arrangements.

Mr. Gentz was born June 7, 1914, the son of Herman and Minnie Sardison Gentz, in Peoria, Ill. He married Beulah L. Peterson on Aug. 31, 1940, in Davenport.

He farmed between Prophetstown and Tampico for 35 years and retired in 1979. He attended Harvest Time Bible Church. He enjoyed bowling in the area local leagues, was a member of the horseshoe league and was a player in the John Deere Baseball League. He was a faithful husband and devoted to his family. He will be truly missed.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife of nearly 64 years, Beulah, Sterling; one daughter, Sharon (Joseph) Moss, Downers Grove, Ill.; two granddaughters, Pamala Moss, Downers Grove, Deanna (James) Lambert, New Port Richey, Fla.; two great-granddaughters, Brooke Nichole and Courtney Lynn Lambert, New Port Richey; two sisters, Bernice Brown, Topeka, Kan., Minita Oppendike, Prophetstown; three brothers, Herman (Helen) Gentz, Prophetstown, Clarence (Charlotte) Gentz, Stillman Valley, Ill., John Gentz, Morrison; one sister-in-law, Joan (Donald) Johnson, Fulton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bernadine (Wallace) Murphy, Erma (Tom) Kirlin; and two brothers, Fred (Luella) Gentz and Ray Gentz.
