From unknown newspaper Sudden Seizure Ends Life of Fred Gentz Drops Dead in Farmyard Sunday White Making Ready to Ship Cattle Death resulting from a heart condition for which he had been under observation for the past two or three years ended the life of Fred Gentz, 46, Sunday afternoon, coming as a shock to his family and friends since the attack arrived completely without warning and he had been about his affairs as usual. With other members of his family, he had attended at dinner at the home of his mother, Mrs. H.F. Gentz, at noon and had then returned to the McMillan farm southeast of town which he had operated for the past 11 years and was inspecting his cattle, intending to ship them that evening, death occurring while he was working in the cattle yard. Mr. Gentz's hired man, Ike Moore, was with him. The body was brought to the Gardner mortuary and services will be held at the Methodist church this afternoon at 2:30 in charge of the Rev. C.F. Chasteen. Burial wil be at Riverside Cemetery, with Fred Bridgestock, Clarence and Kyle Wagenecht, William Newlon, Carl Melton and Ben Vanderleest as pallbearers. Flowers will be in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Thormhlen, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moews, Jr., Mrs. Clarence Wagenecht, Mrs. Bridgestock and Mrs. Newlon. Eldest son of Herman and Minnie (Sardisen) Gentz, Frederick William Gentz was born July 21, 1909, at Peoria. The family moved to Brimfield when he was a boy and he attended school there, coming to Prophetstown with his parents when he was 15. For serveral years he was associated with his father in farming the place he was operating at the time of his death. After his marriage June 3, 1938, to Luella Davis of Prophetstown at Clinton, Ia., the couple moved onto another McMillan farm and made it their home two years, moving back 11 years ago to the present home. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Gentz leaves a stepdaughter, Mrs. Larry Majeski, and five brother and four sisters, Herman Gentz Jr., Wilbert, John and Ray of Prophetstown, and Clarence of Morrison, Mrs. Wallace Murphy of this city, Mrs. E.T. Kirlin of Peoria, Mrs. John Brown, East Moline, and Mrs. Millard Oppendike of Pickerel, Wis. The is also one grandchild. Mr. Gentz was preceded in death by his father. |
