Quad-City Times, The (IA) - January 16, 2006 PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. - Herman J. "Hermie" Gentz, 93, of Prophetstown, Ill., died Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prophetstown United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation will be at the church 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to either the church or Prophets Riverview Center. The Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Prophetstown, is handling the arrangements. Hermie was born November 5, 1912, in Peoria, Ill., the son of Herman F. and Minnie (Sardison) Gentz. He married Helen R. Fassett on April 4, 1936, in Lyndon, Ill. Hermie worked at and later owned and operated the local Buick dealership in Prophetstown for over 50 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Prophetstown Lyons Club, Masonic Lodge 293 A.F. & A.M., Prophetstown, and the former Prophetstown Booster Organization. Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Larry Blackert, Prophetstown; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Georgia Gentz, Byron, Ill.; grandchildren, LeAnn and Tara Blackert, Scott and Shari Gentz, Todd and Amy Gentz, and Troy and Carrie Gentz; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Minetta Oppendike, Prophetstown, and Bernice Brown, Topeka, Kan.; and brothers, John Gentz, Morrison, Ill., and Clarence Gentz, Rockford, Ill. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. |
