Wesley Whittle Kills Himself with a Rifle

ELKADER -- Wesley Whittle, 21, committed suicide at his home in Monona Tuesday night by shooting himself in the head with a .22 caliber rifle.

Sheriff Forrest W. Fisher of Elkader and Coroner E.W. Tuecke of Garnavillo, who investigated, said Whittle had reportedly been drinking heavily for several days.

His mother, Mrs. Charlotte Whittle, said he had been in his room for a couple of hours when she heard the shot. He left a note saying, "Dear Ma. It had to be this way."

Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother and a sister.
