Walter Harry Horsler was born on 30th May 1903 at Luton in Bedfordshire, son of a straw hat machinist named Emily Eliza Horsler, formerly Marshall, and her husband Walter Harry Horsler, a straw hat blocker. He appears in the 1911 census living with his parents and siblings at 111 Albert Road in Luton.

Walter married Daisy Hill in 1927, and they had one daughter. Daisy died in 1990, aged 87. Walter outlived her by three years and died in 1994, aged 91.
