Redvers Reginald Gerald Horsler was born on 31st March 1901 at Luton in Bedfordshire, son of a straw hat machinist named Emily Eliza Horsler, formerly Marshall, and her husband Walter Harry Horsler. He was apparently known as Reg. He does not appear listed in the 1901 census, which was taken on the night he was born - perhaps the family had filled in their form before his birth later that day.

Reg appears in the 1911 census living with his parents and siblings at 111 Albert Road in Luton. He was married in 1922 to Winnie Florence Farnham. They appear to have had one daughter.

Reg died in 1987, aged 86. Winnie outlived him by just over ten years and died in 1998.
