She was educated in the district schools, Cary Collegiate Seminary atOakfield, NY, Oakwood Quaker Seminary, then at Union Springs, NY andlater located at Poughkeepsie, NY. She taught school for severalyears before her marriage. She was a member of the PresbyterianChurch at Elba, the Ladies Aid Society and the Missionary Society. andhad been teacher of the Parker Class of the Sunday School for 15years. She was also a member of the Batavia Chapter, # 267, Order ofthe Eastern Star, the Republican County Committee and a chartermember of the Elba Grange. In 1925 Viola was living with her sonJames and was listed on the census as a restaurateur. Viola was thecorrespondent for The News in Batavia since 1927.
