Progressive Batavian - James Weeks Jones, 54 of No. 56 Tracy Avenue,Assistant Genesee County Welfare Commissioner, died at 5 o'clockyesterday afternoon at the United States Veteran Facility where hebecame a surgical patient a week ago. Born at Elba, Mr. Jones was theson of the late Charles and Viola Weeks Jones. He had resided at Elbaand the vicinity of Batavia most of his life. During the first WorldWar he served in the Motor Transport Corps, enlisting on March 13,1918. he was discharged on March 5, 1919. Mr.. Jones was a memberand past commander of Glenn s. Loomis Post, No. 332, American Legion.He was also a charter member of Voiture 40 over 8. Funeral servicesfor Mr. Jones will be held at 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from theBohm Mortuary with the Rev. John T. Lyon of the Elba PresbyterianChurch officiating. Services at the grave in Maple Lawn Cemetery,Elba, will be in charge of the American Legion. The honorary bearerswere Welfare Commissioner George W. Rogers, James J Beach, clerk ofthe Board of Supervisor, County Clerk Russell C.. Annabal, Charles F.Sargent, manager of the Untied States Veterans Facility, Frank AWilliams, Thomas Fenton, Leroy F. Clark, Leon E. Hoyt and Fed B.Parker of Batavia, Roy A. Porter and Harry E. Bonney of Elba, FrankAmrose of Kenmore, and Clarence Mackurbery, Charles M. Callahan andJoseph Voisaid of Buffalo. The active bearers were past commanders ofthe American Legion, Supervisor Fred E. Taggart, James E. Ryan,William P. Myers, Roland D. Fisher, Commander Walter B. Shore andLouis H. Caton. Ronald L. martin was in charge of the color guard.The color bearers were Thomas C. Burke, George Pfann, Alfred V.Strollo and Street Superintendent Harry S. Boyd. The firing squad wasin charge of Past Commander William R. Stevens and was made up of OtisZavitz, Err-Lee Smith, Arthur W. Rial, Martin R. Kearns, Howard A.Seeley, Richard D. Ward, Peter A Scalia and Charles Manwaring.Officiating at the grave were Past Parker of Batavia, Roy A. Porter,Past Commander Frank H. Webber as chaplain and Past Commander EdwardW. Sullivan sounded taps. The many floral tributes included piecesform the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled AmericanVeterans, Genesee County Board of Supervisors, Botts-Fiorito Post,American legion of LeRoy, employees of the county welfare office,Genesee County Town Welfare Officers Association, office employees ofthe Genesee County Building, Tracy Ave. neighbors, friends andneighbors at Elba, Horseshoe Lake friends, Porter & Bonney of Elba andfriends and relatives. Out of town people attended from New York,buffalo, Kenmore , Alexander, Oakfield, Elba, Le Roy, and Byron.
