He was employed by the former Baker Gen & Forging Co. for a time andthen went into the automobile accessories business. In his businesshe was a partner of Ray B. Gowing and later of John A Will. He was amember of Batavia lodge #475, F&AM, Batavia Chapter - RAM, a lifemember of Batavia lodge of the Elks, and a member of Batavia lodge#107-IOOF. In 1917 they lived at 16 Ellsworth Ave.

28 Feb. 1921 - Batavia Daily News Ray B. Gowing of No. 19 Vernon avenue and W. Edward Wicks of No. 16 Ellsworth avenue, who have conducted the automobile accessores store at No. 108 main Street for nearly six years, disolved partnership today by mutual agreement, Mr. Gowing purchasing Mr. Wick's interest in the business. Mr. Gowing will continue to conduct the business under his own name. Mr. Wicks is not ready yet to announce his future business plans.

June 23, 1921 - Batavia Daily News Joseph Meehan Sold Main Street Business To W.Edward Wicks Joseph Meehan has sold his store at No. 48 Main Street, inlcuding small farm implements, seeds, automobile accessories and parts of Dodge and Reo automobiles, to W. Edward Wicks. Possession will be given on July 1st. Mr. Meehan will continure his agency for Reo autombiles and large farm implements in the warehouse at the rear of No. 48 Main St. Later Mr. Meehan expects to erect a business building in the city. Mr. Meehan established his business at No 48 main Street 21 years ago and has since continued there. Mr. Wicks was a former partner of Ray B.Gowing who conducts a store for automobile supplies at No. 108 Main St.

July 12, 1921 W.E. Wicks Partner Sold Half Interest in His Main St. Store to John A. Will John A. Will of No 4 Manhattan Ave., superintendent of machinery for the Batavia Rubber Company, has purchased of W.Edward Wicks half interest in the implements and automobile accessories store at No. 48 Main St., which Mr. Wicks recently purchased of Mr. Meehan. Mr. Will expects to leave the service of the rubber company on July 15th to become actively engaged in his new business which will be conducted under the name of Wicks and Will. He started in with the rubber company 17 years ago and worked himself up to his present position.
