He moved to Upper Lansdowne in the early 1900’s taking over a property bought from Edward Wynter. He married Harriet Amelia Potts at the then new church at Upper Lansdowne on 1.2.1911. They raised a family of four boys and three girls. Victor established a dairy farm on the property and saw through the time when cream was conveyed to the wharf at Lansdowne for a boat pick up to when bulk milk vats were installed. He was a handy man being a builder, a blacksmith and with mechanical talents able to make something in his shed to do whatever job he needed. He built his own first wireless set. Victor loved working with wood especially beech and cedar and made much of the furniture for his home as well as furniture for district churches. An example is the altar of St. Barnabas’ Church, which he made as a gift from the congregation in memory of George Atkins the builder of the church. A stalwart of the Anglican Church, he was Rectors warden at Upper Lansdowne St. Barnahast Church for many years. He and his wife shared 63½ years of married life, receiving a telegram from H. M. The Queen on the 60th anniversary of their wedding. Victor died on 3rd November 1974 and Harriet Amelia died 16th October, 1979. They are buried in the Lansdowne cemetery.
