Obituary

Vern E. Sloan

    Vern E. Sloan was one of eight children born to Robert E. and Leona Marlatt Sloan, near Mirablie in Caldwell County, Mo., Nov. 9, 1900, and died in Methodist Medical Center, St. Joseph, Mo., Jan. 31, 1981.  Preceding him in death were two sisters, Rita, November 1915, Clara Hopkins, August 1964; two brother, Lloyd W. Sloan, January 1916, Rolla N. Sloan, May 10, 1976.  Vern lived all of his life in Caldwell and Clinton Counties.  He was a farmer until he retired in 1972 and moved to the city of Cameron, Mo.
    Vern was united in marriage to Thelma Hall, April 20, 1938.  To this union, one daughter and three sons were born.  Of these the twins, Florence and Lawrence died in infancy.  Surviving are his wife, Thelma, of the home, and two sons, Richard E. Sloan of Cameron, Mo., and Marlin E. Sloan of Houston, Texas; a brother, Hugh C. of Laverne, Calif.; two sisters, Ethel Fort and Orpha Orr, both of Cameron, one grandson and three granddaughters.
    Vern was a member of the Church of Christ, Cameron.  His funeral was Feb. 2, 1981, at the Church of Christ with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Cameron.
