Huxford states that Thomas was first married to a Miss Gregory in N.C., although there is no documentation to be found. However, it is assumed that Thomas was married and had three children prior to being married to Mary Baker (Nevils), in Bulloch Co. in 1824. John Giddens, his son states in the Indian War Bounty Land Grant Application papers that Mary Giddens was his stepmother and that he was present at the marriage of Thomas and Mary.
