'Tom Bjorndahl moved his family to the hamlet of Mandal (named for Mandal, Norway) in 1904 and started a post office and general store. When the railroad surveyed Watrous a mile away from Mandal, Tom moved his store there [in the spring of 1908]. He later sold the store but was postmaster for many years. Tom was an inventor. He invented and patented dump racks for threshing machines. He opened a shop in Watrous under the name T.N.B. Manufacturing Company, later called the T.N.B. Machinery Shop. He also invented a grain sieve for combines.
'Tom was a prominent curler, skipping his rink to win many curling events. He also invented curling equipment, the design of which is in use today.'[7]
Examples of some of his inventions are housed in the Western Development Museum in Saskatchewan.
