  5. T. P. Fitzpatrick

Thornton P. Fitzpatrick, deceased, was born in Georgia, October 25th, 1835, and died April 22, 1929, at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 27 days.

While in infancy he moved with his parents to Giles county, Tennessee, and lived there until reaching the age of 21, when he located in Dadeville, Dade county, Missouri, and made his home in this and adjoining counties until about three months ago, since which time he made his home with his son W. B. Fitzpatrick in Greenfield.

He was married to Nancy Ann Stanley on September 9, 1860. To this union six children were born: T. J. Fitzpatrick, and J. H. Fitzpatrick of Lockwood; W. B. Fitzpatrick of Greenfield, C. F. Fitzpatrick of Lamar, Mrs. Let tie Farmer of Jerico Springs and Mrs. Minta Collins of Springfield, all of whom survive their father and were with him during his last illness and death.

His first wife died in 1910, after fifty years of life together. In April 1919 he was married to Laura Moorhouse, who died at their home Lockwood on January 8th, 1929.

Mr. Fitzpatrick had been a member of the Christian Church since the age of 21. He was a veteran of the Civil War, and led an active life until stricken by the flu some five weeks before his death, from the effects of which he did not recover. He is survived by 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a large number of other relatives in the county.

During his long residence in the county, Mr. Fitzpatrick became noted for the extra ordinary energy which enabled him to perform a great amount of work in his prime, and also for his patient, self sacrificing service to his family, his friends and his community. He always loved little children and sought to make their lives brighter; and even in his last years he was a favorite friend of the children of his neighborhood and nothing so delighted him as to be surrounded by a group of little ones.
