Information posted by Alex Thompson: Alex S. Thompson 2005-05-26 19:08:04 After the 1798 Tax list in Montgomery Co. TN, Thompson TINNIN appeared on the 1811 State Census, Wayne Co. MS. A widow Sarah TINNON (age 26-45) was in the 1820 Census of Wayne Co. MS with 1 male under 10, another male 18-26, and three females 10-16. She was listed next to Thompson's brother Alexander TINNON, who moved on to Hinds Co. MS and then to Lauderdale Co. MS. I believe Sarah was Thompson's widow; the older male was Asa TINNIN; and the younger male was Thompson TINNIN, who married Sarah McDILL Dec 1841 in Hinds Co. MS (two children in 1850 Census). It also seems likely that one of the girls was Susan TINNIN, who married Zach. RATLIFF in about 1826 in Hinds Co. Zach was household head there in the 1840 Census, and his widow Susan RATLIFF was listed as 42, born in TN, with two children in the 1850 Census. Asa TINNIN was a Private in the 1st Regt. Miss. Territorial Volunteers during the War of 1812. He moved the family to Hinds Co. MS by 1822, when he first appeared on a Tax list there. Land records show he acquired considerable land in Hinds Co. from 1824 to 1844, and appeared on the 1830 and 1840 Federal Censuses. His name is seen on the Index to the 1845 Mississippi State Census of Hinds Co., but he is missing from the 1850 Fenderal Census. References
