From: "Tony & Sue (Skay) Abruscato" <sueskay@@pacbell.net> Subject: Mebane/Tinnin I am also researching the Tinnin/Mebane line. Our Tinnin line comes out of Hugh Tinnin and Ann Williams. Hugh is the son of James Tinnin and Rebekah Thompson. Rebekah being the child of Thomas Thompson and Ann Finney of Orange Co., NC.

Hugh's son William Hugh Tinnin married Catherine McCarty, daughter of our Joseph McCarty. Hugh's other son Lawrence W. Tinnin married Louisa Mebane, daughter of an Alexander and Jane Mebane. William's son, also William Hugh Tinnin married Rebecca Mebane Dec. 31, 1861 in Lamar Co., TX. She was the daughter of James Mebane and Rebecca Parhum. Hugh's daughter Susan/Susannah was married to Zachariah Ratliff, the Ratliffs also having ties to Orange Co.

This line of Tinnins settled in Montgomery Co., TN by at least the late 1790's. Along with the Moores, McCarty's, Allens, Ratliffs and other famillies (we also find Armstrong connections as well as Morrow), they settled in Washington Co., MS territory (now Washington Co., AL (and counties formed out of it) and Wayne Co., MS) as early as 1810. By the 1830's these families were in Madison Co., MS. By 1841 Lawrence W. Tinnin along with some of the Mebanes were in Lamar Co., TX, followed closely by the Moores and McCarty's. There also was a James Tinnin early on in Lamar Co., TX, but have not been able to make the connection yet.

The Moores although we can only find them previously in SC., have a tie to the Vanhooks and Debows in Caswell Co. The Thompson family is also tied to the Vanhooks and Debows. The Moores are also tied to the Dobbins, Lea, and Comer families of Caswell.

I'm also researching the Deweese/Trickey line out of Caswell/Person Co's, as well as the Boothe/Dixon/Moore/Herndon/Trice families in Orange Co., NC and Caroline Co., VA.

Would love to hear from anyone working on these lines.
