www.gausschildren.org WTGC pg 60: Doctor Thomas Worthington the ancestor of the Worthington line hereinafter enumerated lost his father James Worthington when he was about 4 years old. After that he lived with his grandfather, Samuel Worthington, until he was about 13 years old. Then after that for sometime with his uncle, Samuel Worthington, in TN. He went to school to his brother William. When he was about 19 years old he went north to IL to Greene County where two of his uncles (maternal) Calvin and Luther Tunnel were living and with whom he stayed for some time. He studied medicine at Medical College at Cincinnati later under Doctor Gross the great surgeon - and his signature is signed to his diploma. After obtaining his degree, he first settled in Springfield, IL and there met Miss Amelia J Long whom he married at the residence of Dr M L Knapp (her sister's husband) in 1837 - & then went to Pittsfield, IL where he made his home for the balance of his life
