Susan Chambless-was shot from ambush as he was returning home was killed in War of 1812; shot from ambush as he was returning home there is a note in the William T Gauss collection taken from www.gausschildren.org, p036: James Worthington was the father of Dr. Thomas Worthington of Pittsfield, IL was killed in war of 1812 - shot from ambush as he was returning home - he was so beloved that the party with him, immediately revenged his death then & there; the suit worn by him at the time, woven & made by his mother, was still preserved - 1890 - by Mrs Betsy Worthington, his daughter-in-law-the widow & cousin of his son William & daughter of his brother Samuel (Worthington of ????? states that he now has this suit of his grandfather in his possession ?????) 14 Jun 1901-ltr to William T Gauss from Record and Pension Office, War Dept., Washington, DC: The records of this office show that one James Worthingotn served as a private in Captain Samuel Bunch's Rifle Company, of William's Mounted Regiment of East TN Volunteers, war of 1812. His name appears on the rolls of that organization with remarks: "Commencemnet of service, 1 Dec 1812; Expiration of service, 25 Mar 1813; Term charged, 115 days; Discharged 28 Feb 1813, and mustered up to 25 Mar 1813. The records also show that one James Worthingotn served as a private in Captain James Standefer's Company of Colonel John Brown's Regiment of East TN Volunteers, war of 1812. His name appears on the rolls of that organization with remarks: "Commencement of service, 20 Sep 1813; Expiration of service, 3 Dec 1813; Term charged 2 mos 3 days; Died in service 3 Dec 1813" |
