Facts and Events
It is unknown exactly when Thomas arrived in Van Diemen's Land. 23 March 1822 - There is a Government order issued from the CSO that T. Presnell will supply 50 bushells of wheat at Hobart Town between April 22 and 25. This is the earliest record found so far and indicates that Thomas had arrived prior to this date (HTG 6 April 1822, p. 1). It therefore appears that he arrived before his mother, Sarah. 28 September 1822 - In the Hobart Town Court-house, Thos. Presnell was granted a licence "To sell Spirits, Wines, and Beer, in the Country" at the "Half-way House" at Black Snake. He was also granted a licence "To ply boats in the River Derwent" from the Black Snake to Green Point (HTG 5 October 1822, p. 1). 14 November 1825 - There are two grants of land made to a Thomas Presnell. ("Colonial Times", 18 November 1825, p. 1) 22 November 1828 - It was mentioned in HTC, p. 3, that Mr Thomas Presnell Snr was a special constable and poundkeeper at Oatlands. |
