Facts and Events
Documents found which probably relate to this Thomas: 14 November 1825, there is a grant of land made to Thos Presnell jnr. ("Colonial Times", 18 November 1825, p. 1) 16 November 1826, the following is from a journal entry for the Land Commissioners of VDL. It appears to relate to Thomas Presnell Jnr as the dates given for the Presnell mentioned are 1807-1870, and it is indicated that he is the Inkeeper of Halfway House, Black Snake. "...in summer time they are obliged to cross the river for fresh water, which is only to be had at the Black Snake rivulet, Presnell in the true style of a selfish settler, gives them all the trouble in his power, and wishes to fence them out, the Road fence he has made too narrow in that spot." 12 May 1827, Thomas Presnell Junior, resident of Black Snake, applied for a grant of land. In support of the application he supplied the following information:
12 May 1827, Thomas applied for and was granted 500 acres of land on the express condition of residence and cultivation. (LSD 1/8 p. 616) 6 October 1827, it was reported that Thos. Presnell jnr. had been granted a licence for the Black Snake Inn at Black Snake. (HTG, p.7) See http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tcowley/Davis/ThomasPRESNELL.htm |
