1828 - James came to Australia on Wanstead, apparently with his wife, possibly his daughter Harriett, and, it seems, also his son Abraham, and his son's wife Ann and daughter Ann Sarah. There is a record of Mr Presnell senior and junior on that voyage. 16 November 1832 - Friday, in HTG: Survey Office 16 November 1832: "Notice is hereby given, that the undermentioned claims for grants & leases (according to the nature of the claims) will be forwarded for approval or investigation to the Commissioners appointed to examine into applications for titles to land on the second day of November next, before which day any caveat which must be in writing will be received in this office. - James Presnell; Area: 1 acre, 2 roods, 33 perches; Bounded on the north-east side by a curved line of 200 links along Landsdowne crescent on the south-east side by an allotment to Thomas Brennard, on the south-west side by Knocklofty terrace, and on the north-west side by an allotment to E.A. Midwood." 30 November 1832 - It was reported that James Presnell had been granted land at Lansdowne Cres. (1A-2R-33P). (HTG, p. 614) 6 Sep 1833 - HTG: Police Office 3 Sep 1833, Assignments - J. Pressnell, Hobart Town, a shoemaker per 'Atlas'. There is a record of James Presnell arriving on 18 September 1839 per "Brazil Packet", possibly from Melbourne (Launceston Advertiser 19 9 1839, p4 c40]. There is a James Presnell, shoemaker, Little Collins Street, Melbourne, shown in the Port Phillip Directory of 1841 and 1842. It is not known if these refer to the same James Presnell. References
