Thomas Peters was a Loyalist who came with his family to what was then the British colony of Nova Scotia in 1783, after the American Revolutionary War. Thomas submitted a Loyalist Claim in 1786, which said, in part "resided in Dutchess Co. Declared from the first in Favour of Brit. Was frequently imprisoned. Was sent to Philadelphia Gaol & kept there 4 months. Got within the Brit. Lines at New York about Feby. 1777. Lived at Long Island during the War. Did not serve." Thomas Peters and Susannah Palmer had the following children: 1. Mary PETERS (abt 1770 - abt 1805); 2. Marcus PETERS (abt 1770 - 1846); 3. William PETERS (abt 1772 - 1836); 4. Susan PETERS (abt 1782 - 1838); 5. Samuel PETERS (abt 1786 - 1867); 6. Ann [Frances] PETERS (abt 1787 - 1828) Both Thomas and Susannah left wills which name all children who were living at the time and some grandchildren. An obituary was published for Susannah Peters in the N.B. Courier on 1 March 1834. |
