Personal History

Thomas Kittredg(e), second son of James Kittredge and Sarah (Fowle), was born 23 February 1707/8, in Billerica, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[1][2] He died 21 March 1794, in Tewksbury (formerly part of Billerica), in Massachusetts.[3]

Thomas Kittredg and Jane Kittredg (who were first cousins) were married 25 May 1727, in Billerica, by Samuel Ruggles. The town records of Billerica list the births of their children, Thomas, Jonathan, Abigail, Thomas (second), and Joshua. The town records of Tewksbury list the births of their children, Sarah, Johanna, and Mary. Their first two children died in a house fire 5 October 1729.

Sgt. Thomas Kittridge and Betty Peacock were married 22 December 1779, in Tewksbury.

In his will dated 9 October 1793,[4] Thomas Kittredge (his X mark) of Tewksbury, County of Middlesex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, yeoman, “being in a weak state of health of body”, bequeathed to his wife Bettey the use of the garden and certain rooms in the house, one new milch cow, and an annual allowance of certain goods and other supplies, so long as she remained his widow. He bequeathed to his son Thomas Kittredge one third and to his grandson Jeremiah Kittredge two thirds of his lands and buildings in Tewksbury, his husbandry tools, his live stock, and his money, and with the same proportions to each in paying any debts and legacies; they were both appointed his executors. He bequeathed to his grandchildren by his daughter Abigail Bell, wife of Wm Bell, deceased, all the lands possessed in the town of Goffstown, New Hampshire; £36 to his daughter Sarah Hunt, wife of Nathll Hunt; and £30 to his daughter Joanna Kittredge, wife of Joseph Kittredge. The will was presented to the probate court of Middlesex Co. on 9 April 1794 by his grandson Jeremiah and proved by the oaths of Newman Scarlett and Zephaniah Clark. Jeremiah Kittredge, yeoman, along with Newman Scarlett and Zephaniah Clark, yeomen, signed a bond in the amount of £10,000. The inventory taken on 11 June 1794 was valued £448-1-11, including real estate of about 180.5 acres valued at £377-10.
