Personal History

James Kittredg(e), sometimes Tert. or Jr., first son of James Kitteridge and Sarah (Fowle), was born 28 June 1700, in Roxbury, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[1][2] He died 23 July 1771, in Tewksbury, of consumption and dropsy.[3]

James Kittredge and Hannah Walker, widow, were married 26 June 1766, in Tewksbury.

In his will dated 17 January 1771,[4] James Kitteridge (his X mark) of Tewksbury, yeoman, bequeathed to wife Hannah use of the dwelling house, one third of his lands and barn, and all of the household goods she brought to the marriage. He bequeathed £0-6 to his son James Kitteridge; £13-6-8 to his son Ebenezer; £13-6-8 to each of his grandsons, Nathaniel Kitteridge, Daniel Kitteridge, and Asa Kitteridge, upon reaching the age of 21; and £19-15 to each of his daughters, Betty Foster and Sarah Stickney. He appointed his wife and his son-in-law, Abraham Stickney Jr., as the executors of his will. He requested that they sell the remainder of his estate, and any funds not used to pay his debts should be equally divided between his son Ebenezer and his two daughters; they would also receive equal shares of the estate bequeathed to his wife Hannah after her decease. The will was presented to the probate court of Middlesex Co. and proved by two of the witnesses on 6 August 1771. Deacon Isaac Kittredg, John Needham, and William Brown Jr., all of Tewksbury, were appointed to take an inventory. The inventory was taken 12 September 1771 with about 100 acres of real estate valued at £191-6-8 and additional personal estate valued £39-19-2-3.
