Facts and Events
Sarah Clifton Hill was the second wife of Thomas Harrell Evans. Thomas had first married Sarah's Sister, Edith Clifton. Thomas was also Sarah's second husband. Thomas and Sarah had eight children, 1. Elizabeth Ann Evans (b. 27 Oct 1816); 2. Seth Thomas Evans; 3. Idona Rivona Evans (b. 30 Dec 1821); 4. Josiah Evans (b. 23 Jun 1823); 5. Charlotte Evans (b. 14 Aug 1826); 6. James H. Evans (b. 8 Jun 1829); 7. William G. Evans (b. 8 Jun 1831); 8. John Evans (b. 23 Dec 1833), most of whom were born in Johnston County, North Carolina. The family then migrated to Northern Tuscaloosa County Alabama. The place they settled came to be known as Evanstown, which is atop Ol Tyro Mountain, about thirty miles north of Tuscaloosa. At least one of the sons gave land to build Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church and cemetery. Sarah Clifton Hill Evans was the first one to be buried there. [edit] Disputed LineageSome say he was the son of Robert Evans of Perquimans County, North Carolina. However, neither the 1754 will of the Robert Evans[3] whose estate was inventoried in 1758[4], nor the distribution of the estate of another Robert Evans in 1797[4] mention a Thomas Evans. Find A Grave[2] says, without providing evidence, that his father was Peter Evans of Virginia. References
