Essex County Court 10th of September 1697 - JOSEPH WYATT and SARAH his Wife declare against JOHN SORRELL in a Plea oftrespass and Battery for assaulting and beating the said SARAH on the KINGS HIGH ROAD to which the Defendt. appears and by THOMAS GREGSON his Attorney pleas not guilty in manner and forme; Wherefore the matter for tryall is referred to a Jury (by name WILLIAM TOMLIN JOHN HAWKINS, SAMLL.THACKER, JOHN CLARKE, JOHN LANDRUM, NICHOLAS COPELAND, WILLIAM CREAMOUR, THOMAS CLOWSON, THOMAS HINDS, WILLIAM HUDSON and JOHN PARKER) who being sworne give in this following verdt: We of the Jury do find for the Plt. Four hundred pounds of tobo: which is on the Pits. mocon by JAMES WILLIAMS their Attorney ordered to be recorded, And Judgment granted them againt the Defendt. for the said Four hundred pounds of Tobo: to be paid with costs als Exo.

THIS INDENTURE made the twelfth day of May 1722 Between WILLIAM BROWN & MARGARET BROWN his Wife (one of the Surviving Sisters of CORNELIUS CLEMSON late ) of the County of Essex, and WM. GOLDING of sd County of other part Witnesseth that they the said William Brown and Margaret his Wife for sum Ten pounds currant money & four hundred & nineteen pounds of Tobacco, hath on this date granted unto him the sd William Golding his heirs forever land in this County of Essex being one third part of a tract of land containing 200 acres formerly given to THOMAS CLEMSON [Clowson] Father of Cornelius Clemson included within a Pattent granted to CORNELIUS NOWELL [Noell] bearing date 23rd October 1690 for 390 acres of land the 200 acres is the land & plantation whereon sd William Golding now dwells . . . .
