He married Mary Jane Osborn in December, 1884. The affidavit was witnessed by Henry J. Osborn. According to the obituary published in the Crawfordsville Daily Journal, February 3, 1909, Thomas was probably one of the most widely known men in Crawfordsville. He had been employed at the courthouse for many years as an engineer and later as a janitor. One of his responsibilities was being in charge of the county Jail. He was a man with a keen sense of honor and a man of business ability who had acquired several residential properties in the town. . . . Although Thomas and Mary had no children, they adopted Lulu R. Hartington who became Mrs. Wallace Whalen. Thomas died at her home on February 3, 1909.
