He served as Superintendent of the Dawn, Missouri, schools and then in 1926 he joined the faculty of the Chillicothe school system. He taught many subjects, coached sports and was a sponsor for various school groups.

For eighteen summers, he was the manager of the Chillicothe swimming pool and also taught speech at the Missouri State Training School for Girls.

He was a member of the Chillicothe Optimist Club and the Missouri State Teachers Association.
