About Sylvanus Warfield, Jr.

Sylvanus Warfield, Jr. was born abt. 1779, likely in Maryland, the son of Sylvanus Warfield, Sr. and Patience Kirby [They married on 30 Jan 1778 in Maryland]. Records place Sylvanus Jr. in Hampshire County, [West] Virginia by 1806 and 1807 when he was listed on the Personal Property Tax List along with his father. By 1813, Sylvanus had enlisted no 6 April to serve in the War of 1812 for one year, and he served likely in the 26th Regiment, U.S. Infantry, serving in Capt. George Kisling's Company.

Sylvanus Warfield, Jr. married Isha Howell around 1799; the key records proving this relationship is the will of Isha's grandmother, Jemima ( ) Howell which named Sylvanus Warfield, Jr.'s son George Warfield as her Executor; also Isha Howell was living with her son George Warfield in 1850 and was listed with his family. [Note: she was also likely living with George Warfield in 1840 based upon those Census Records]. In addition, Elijah Warfield, who appears to be the eldest son of Sylvanus Warfield, Jr. and his wife Isha Howell, named one of his daughters, Isha Warfield, born abt. 1837, likely named after his mother.

Sylvanus Warfield, Jr. died sometime after his service in the War of 1812; some researchers cite his death in 1818 [with no apparent records to support], but it is possible that he had moved away and died in a different area, and the fact that he did not show up Census records may tend to support this. Additional research is needed on this family.
