Mr. John W. Parkinson Newark Ohio Dear Sirs. I advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim #S.28.840, it appears that Sylvanus Parkinson was born April 19, 1763 at Basking Ridge, New Jersey. While residing at Basking Ridge, New Jersey, he enlisted and served as follows: As a teamster under the direction of his father whose name is not given, dates of service not given, three months as a teamster under Halsay and Fisher, Commisioner of Teams in the New Jersey Troop, three months as a driver of artillery pieces und Captain Fleming, Colonel ???? Reg. Of Continental Artillery, one month a orderly sergeant in Captain Hickey's New Jersey Company, three weeks a orderly sergeant in Captain Sander's or Sebring's New Jersey Company, Colonel Frelinghousen New Jersey Regiment, he also served short terms every year from 1776 - 1778, was in the battle of Elizabethtown and skirmishes. In 1789, he moved to Sharon (later Carlisle), New York, where he resided until 1827, when he moved to Otto, Cattaraugus County, New York. He was allowed pension on his application executed October 5, 1832, at which time he was a resident of Otto, New York. It is not stated that soldier was ever married. Very truly yours Earl D.
