Facts and Events
Henry was a quartermaster in General Stark's regiment, which was aligned with George Washington's army. After the war, Henry tried to return to farming, but injuries acquired during his military service had taken a toll on his health. He sold his farm and became a teacher. He was well respected and warmly remembered by his students, who called him "Master Parkinson". Henry was fluent in Latin and versed in the Classics - a very educated man, as was his father. Henry advocated education for girls as well as boys. He married Janet McCurdy. Together they had nine children: Esther (born 1779), Robert (born 1781), Sophia (born 1783), Henry (born 1785), Richard (born 1787), Nancy (born 1788), Clarissa (born 1790), Elizabeth (aka Betsey, born 1793), and Jane (born 1797). The Parkinsons lived in a large, two-story wood home in Canterbury, New Hampshire. |
