Facts and Events
Susannah Dearmer's origins have yet to be established. The age quoted when she died implies she was born around 1776, whilst she indicated in the 1841 census that she was born in Hertfordshire. Susannah's first sighting is on 25th July 1797, when she was married at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire to a labourer named George Swallow. Between 1797 and 1816 they had eight children baptised in the neighbouring parish of Harpenden, although three died as babies or young children. George died in 1837, aged 64. The 1841 census finds Susannah living with her daughter Priscilla at Pimlico Row in Harpenden, and working as a plaiter. There was also a three year old boy named Charles Swallow living with them, who may well have been Susannah's grandson. Priscilla died the following year, aged 25. Susannah died in 1850, and was buried at Harpenden on 15th September 1850. She was said to be 74 years old. References
